Mikayla's First Grade Field Trip/Pnuemonia

Last Wednesday (4/29/10) Mikayla spiked a 104 fever and was complaining of her eyes and head hurting. The next day I took her to the doctor. The doctor said she had strep throat, (she said it looked like she had golf balls in her throat) a sinus infection, and infected ear lobes from her earings being too tight. Saturday morning Mikayla still wasn't feeling well. I took her back to the doctor. He listened to her lungs and sent us to the ER for a chest x-ray. The chest x-ray revealed that Mikayla had a pretty good area of her lungs infected with pnuemonia. They gave her some injections, prescribed some more meds, and sent us home with injections to be given at home on Sunday. Needless to say, it's been quite the week the last 10 days. Mikayla has had to go to the doctor every other day. Each time she has gotten more medications because the condition wasn't improving, the fever was still present and more symptoms would develop. She has been on 4 different antibiotics, 2 inhalers, breathing treatments every four hours, prednisone, and has gone through 3 bottles of Motrin. And finally, yesterday (5/7/10) the doctor feels as though she is finally overcoming the pnuemonia. She has to continue treatment for the next month, but she is finally starting to eat and regain her energy. This morning when she woke up, she asked me if I liked sleeping through the night for the first time in 10 days, because she liked not having to be woken up.
Thursday Mikayla's class got to go on their first field trip for the year. They went to the Stockton Children's Musuem and Mickies Grove Park. She was so excited to be well enough to attend the field trip.

Mikayla had a fun time. By the end of the day she was exhausted. But she was thankful that she was well enough to attend the trip.

Pismo Beach

Easter morning we left home and headed to Pismo Beach for a little Spring Break camping trip. Sunday was spent traveling and setting up the campsite. Just after we finished setting up our sites it started to rain. So the rest of the evening was spent inside our trailers watching a movie and having dinner. Sunday night it rained hard and the wind blew. But Monday morning we awoke to clearing sky's and sunshine.

Monday at the beach for a bit. Although the sun was out, the wind was very cold.

Playing at the campsite. It was a bit warmer up at the site than it was down at the beach.

Tuesday we went for a walk into town and spent sometime on the pier.

This is a picture of all of our shadows looking off the pier.

Later in the day on Tuesday we took the kids back to the beach to play. The weather was a lot warmer than it was on Monday. John and Art decided to give in to their pleading and begging children and let them take off their socks and shoes, roll up their pants and run barefoot in the water. They had a blast.

On the way back to the campsite from the beach, Nicholas fell in the sand. Since he was wet, the sand just stuck to him. They had a blast though.

It was a short but sweet trip. Camping trips always seem to come to end too soon.

Easter

Easter morning the girls were up early to see what the Easter Bunny brought them. They got Messenger bags that they could color and decorate, some candy and some flip flops.
